The youth priority list for the new composition of State Parliament presented (23.02.2007.)

The joint conference of Youth Information Agency BiH and the Chairman of House of Representatives Mr. Beriz Belkić was held on February 23rd, 2007. On this occasion, the conference participants and the public were presented the information on the turnout of the youth during the elections in 2006. These elections put under the obligation the newly elected governmental representatives to exercise responsibility towards the young voters as well. The turnout of young voters on these elections was the highest than ever.   

According to the data of Central Electoral Commission BiH, the turnout of the persons, under the age of 30, at the general elections in 2006 was 288.185, which represents an increase of 105% in absolute number of young people, compared to the last municipal elections in 2004, when 140.126 of young people voted. The share of young voters in total number of voters in 2006 figured you at 19%, while in 2004 it was 13%. In terms of percentages, turnout of young people at the elections in 2002 and 2004 was around 25%, while the poll of young people in 2006 elections was 47%. It should be mentioned that the young people constitute 22, 5% of electoral body, that is 616.883 of young people.

The young people were ready for the new session of Parliament, offering the list of concrete activities in 2007, which relates to the following:

  1. Adoption of the Law on Higher Education

  2. Adoption of the law that will regulate institutional framework and address the issues of the youth and their organising at the state level.  

  3. Make a special item in the budget concerning the youth in 2007.

  4. Re-establishment of the Sub-commission for the Youth at Parliamentary assembly BiH (including the clear agenda and functioning modes)

  5. Better support for Open Parliament (Otvoreni parlament) project (study visits to Parliament by youth)

  6. To request the reports from the Council of Ministers BiH and entity governments concerning the implementation of action plan on computerisation of society and lobbying to facilitate implementation.  

  7. Launching of an initiative towards the Council of Ministers to establish an expert team for youth employment issues (for the activities related to youth employment strategy)

  8. Reviewing of the implementation of Public Investments Programme BiH 2004-06 (not a single KM was invested in the only project for the youth– establishment of youth info-desks, even though the project is the part of Public Investments Programme BiH).
