TAM/AYT – The fourth generation of peer trainers registered (February 23rd to 26th, 2007)

In the period between February 23rd and 26th, 2007, 30 new trainers (age between 15 and 18) received training in Vitez. These trainers will constitute the “active youth teams”, together with YIA mentors, in Bihać, Banjaluka, Mostar, Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zenica and Zvornik. The teams, coordinated by YIA Programme Coordinator Samir Halilović and Executive Manager of YIA Jan Zlatan Kulenović, will organise workshops on youth activism in secondary schools in BiH, and super-dialogues of the youth and local authorities. The teams will also provide information for young people through youth info-desks (Bihać, Zenica and Zvornik), special info-bulletins, collection of local information for web portal www.mladi.info, and promotion of youth activism amongst the representatives of local authorities.

The trainers who were involved in last-year workshop cycle were also included in this new cycle too. This time they were involved in the process of selection of new peer trainers, supported by regular mentors in seven regions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The secondary school pupils, who have already received training in former youth activism schools, and who actively participated in the “Active Youth”, GAMe and “Super dijalog” (“Super-dialogue”) workshops, were entitled to enter the competition.

In the course of preparatory seminar in Vitez, the trainers learned various skills necessary to educate their peers and to work with them. They received this training through thematic workshops.
The plan is to organise 217 workshops until July 2007, 175 of which will be aimed to train youth on their status in the society and to identify the real problems of youth population. As it was the practice in the previous cycles, GAMe workshops will follow the completionof Aktivni mladi/Active Youth workshops. In total, 21 GAMe workshops will be organised. These workshops will enable the youth to be acquainted with the political system and BiH government hierarchy. The final series will be composed of 21 workshops titled Super dijalogSuper-dialogue where the young people will get an opportunity to meet government representatives, to put concrete questions on their status, needs, and plans.

Following the successful completion of resembling activities in the previous academic year, the fourth generation of trainers officially begins their activities after the completion of training in Vitez.
Peer Education Project for a ctive youth is supported by International Centre Olof Palme and Open Society Fund (Fond Otvoreno društvo BiH) – Soros Foundation.
