The promotion of manual LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND YOUTH organised in Municipality Centar Sarajevo (27.02.07.)

YIA organised another promotion of the manual “Local Authorities and the Youth”. The promotion was held in Great Hall of Municipality Centar, on 26th of February 2007 and was attended by the youth advisors and expert associates from city districts, the members of municipal youth commissions and state Commission for Coordination of Youth Issues, advisors of the Head of Municipality and the members of a number of youth organisations. 

On this occasion as well, the participants emphasized that the creation of local youth policy or youth policy should be the objective of all local authorities in BiH, which aim to systematically regulate its concern for the youth and meet their needs. The attendees were given a chance to present both, the results of their work in individual municipalities from which they originate, and the opportunities for further development of youth policy at local level.

The manual, which was presented, contains more then 100 pages. In this manual were described and elaborated various topics in youth policy, structured in three chapters. The first Chapter deals with youth policy stakeholders, who should be an integral part of every local community and work in conjunction to design and implement local youth policy. The second Chapter considers the youth policy instruments, meaning the tools, which directly influence the improvement of youth status. The third part describes the contents itself and the challenges of youth policy. What should we focus on, what is it that municipal authorities find suitable, and what directly relates to the needs of young people? How to address the priority issues such as youth employment and education, leisure time, prevention of risk behaviour?
