First meeting of B&H youth from across the World (21 – 26 July 2007)
B&H OIA in partnership with Working Group for Youth of Bosnia and Herzegovina World Network, and with support of local partners and sponsorship of the Ministry of Education and Science of Sarajevo Canton, organized the First Meeting of B&H Youth from across the World. This meeting was organized in the period from 21 to 26 July 2007, in Sarajevo.
Due to insufficient previous cooperation and weak connections between the Diaspora youth and youth in the native country, representatives of B&H World Network and B&H OIA organized jointly the meeting that for the first time gathered young people from approximately 20 different countries across the world, and that is what makes it different from all other previous meetings. In this way, the organizers wanted to affirm resources of Diaspora youth by opening a dialogue about possibilities for future cooperation and to instigate interest of young Bosnians and Herzegovinians for their native country, which, due to complex situation, is increasingly getting weaker.
About 100 people, whose origins are from Bosnia and Herzegovina but who live, study or work in different countries across the world were present at this meeting. Presence of such a large number of people is very important for creation of a solid basis for better cooperation and identification of concrete ways and possibilities for their involvement in development processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Work program was planned in such a way that during the morning hours participants would discuss certain topic, and in the afternoon hours they would, in working groups, create concrete projects and ways to work and cooperate in future. Meeting therefore resulted in a set of recommendations for BH institutions, organisations and individuals from B&H, but also from diaspora, as well as in a number of project ideas in different fields, whose realisation would enable participation of diaspora youth, and young people in general, in overall development of B&H.
