FIFTH ROUND OF THE PROJECT "ACTIVE YOUTH" (09.2007.)

Between 28th September and 8th October 2007 YIA BiH organised three trainings for 58 young educators (age range 15 - 18) who will, with OIA mentors, form “teams of active young people“ in Bihać, Banjaluka, Mostar, Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zenica and Zvornik. With mentors - Programme Coordinator in YIA Samir Halilović and Executive Director of OIA Jan Zlatan Kulenović, teams will be engaged on organising workshops on youth activism in secondary schools in BiH, organising Fairs of youth ideas, informing young people through info desks (Bihać, Zenica and Zvornik), gathering of local information for web portal www.mladi.info, and promotion of youth activism to representatives of local authorities.

The new round of peer education involves educators from the last year round of workshops who selected new educators, this time with permanent mentors in 7 regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina. High school students who passed previous schools of youth activism and made an effort on workshops “Active youth”, GAM and “Super dialog” were eligible for the contest.

On preparation seminars, educators were taught through theme workshops on various skills necessary for education of peers and working with them. Until December 2007, total of 165 workshops were planned for the purpose of education of youth in their position in the society and identification of real problems that face young population, and its transformation into project ideas. As in previous rounds, Active youth workshops will be followed by GAMe workshops (total of 21) where youth will have the opportunity to transform ideas into projects with the guidance from more experiences youth activists, and, later on, present themselves to their peers and representatives of local authorities on a unique event called Fair of youth ideas; here, all the participants decide on the best project, and it is, thanks to YIA BIH, awarded with mini grant. Total of 21 Fairs of youth ideas are planned as well as the final fair presenting the best project ideas and practices of youth in BiH.

Peer education project for active youth is supported by International centre Olof Palme and Fond Open Society BiH – Soros Foundation.
